Australia, 17 June 2019: Australian owned company, Nutricare, has announced global distribution in 32 countries shipping more than 1.9 million units of its PATCH Bamboo Bandages, the world’s first compostable wound care solution. With a turnover of over $5.5m since launching in 2017, PATCH’s year-on-year sales has increased by a whopping 453%.
If you think that’s impressive, not only are PATCH strips compostable, so is the packaging. The product has been embraced by the natural community since its inception, but has moved into mainstream retail environments including Woolworths in Australia, CVS Pharmacies in the US and Harrods in the UK, proving the world is ready for a truly sustainable solution.
A market disruptor, Australian born founder, James Dutton - at home in Melbourne for a few weeks before he re- joins his family who split their time between Hungary and the United States to support the expansion of the PATCH phenomenon - said he was “incredibly encouraged by the response we have seen around the world and proud by how well our product as mission are being embraced in global markets.”
“PATCH was born out of an allergy my son experienced from regular plasters when he was an infant. I couldn’t cope with his pain and there was no solution on the market. After doing some research, I was fascinated to find one in four Australians1 are allergic to regular plasters,”
said Mr Dutton.
“I didn’t just want to create a product for allergies. I wanted to develop something compostable and sustainable that doesn’t pollute the environment whilst having active, natural ingredients to speed up the healing process.”
PATCH Bamboo Bandages come in four varieties: PATCH Natural Bamboo Strips for cuts and scratches, PATCH Coconut Oil Kids for abrasions and grazes, PATCH Aloe Vera Bamboo Bandages for burns and blisters and PATCH Activated Charcoal Bamboo Strips for bites and splinters.
“Our ‘trendy’ ingredients like activated charcoal and coconut oil are not used because they are in vogue. We chose these ingredients because they have been historically proven to assist the natural wound recovery process. We are incredibly proud of this,”
said Mr Dutton.
The stats? Since its inception, PATCH is now available in over 2,534 retail stores nationally and 15,610 retail stores globally. Strong growth is expected to continue with increasing demand in the USA, a market Nutricare has only recently entered.
With the environmental footprint being a focus for PATCH, research shows, if every household in Australia purchased one packet of regular plastic plasters, it would equate to 70,812.5 square metres of plastic waste – that’s enough to cover the MCG surface three and a half times in plastic!
The Aussie success story has a string of awards to date including the Natural & Organic Awards Europe 2019 Best New Eco Living Product; Product Excellence Winner, Eco Innovation Winner and Product Innovation Winner in the 2019 Australian Business Awards; and 2018 Organic Consumer Choice Award.
Not impressed yet? PATCH uses certified organic bamboo, it is also natural, vegan friendly, cruelty free and Aussie owned. The company also believes in doing good by providing supplies for villages in East Timor, is committed to saving marine life and protecting the ocean by partnering with the Sea Shepherd Fleet and has donated $100,000 worth of stock to The Retail Orphanage Initiative in Haiti, supporting children with sterile medical resources.
